Teesdale Farmers Market - A Taste of Teesdale - Supported by Teesdale Marketing Ltd.

Farmers Market Accreditations Rules

  1. Produce sold at the market MUST be locally grown or locally produced. Local means within 30 miles radius of the market. All produce must come from within a maximum radius of 50 miles from the market.
  2. Where there is a choice of producers for a space at the market, preference will be given to the producer closest to the market within the 30 mile radius, providing that this does not compromise the quality of the produce available. Producers from outside this area (to the maximum of 50 mile radius) will only be invited onto the market if they have a unique product not found within the 30 mile radius.
  3. All produce sold must be grown, reared, caught, and brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stallholder.
  4. Stalls must be staffed by someone directly involved in growing, raising or producing the goods on sale.
  5. No bought in produce may be sold without further processing. The ingredients for processed and added value products (jams, pickles, baking etc ) must be sourced locally wherever possible - all processed products must contain at least 10% locally sourced ingredients.
  6. Craft products must be made by the stallholder and use locally sourced materials where possible.
  7. No genetically modified produce or goods containing genetically modified ingredients may be sold.
  8. All stallholders must comply with current Trading Standards and Environmental Health requirements and it is their own responsibility to know these regulations.
  9. Producers must maintain public, employee and products liability insurance.
  10. Stallholders must sign a statement agreeing to abide by these rules before they can trade at the market and allow the market organiser to visit their farm or place of production before they start trading and on an annual basis to verify their claims.
  11. Co-operative groups will only be allowed to trade if they adhere to the following rules:

(a) The producer of the goods on sale must attend at least one market in three

(b) The origin and nature of the goods must be clearly marked

(c) Each producer represented must fill in an application form and be deemed to satisfy the Farmers market criteria.
